Arctech Delivered 6MW Skyline II in Texas, US, Helping Schools Reducing Energy Bill

Arctech, the world's leading tracking, racking, and BIPV solutions provider, announced it has successfully delivered 6MW SkyLine II solar tracking solution for a school in Lubbock, Texas, USA.

It followed the company’s earlier delivery this year of 30MW solar tracking solutions in the region. Now the company has an accumulated 70MW project portfolio in the USA. 


Installing solar panels on the school rooftop is not only a demonstration of reducing the school's carbon footprint but also a practical go-to for decreasing energy bills. 


After salaries, energy is the second biggest expense for public K-12 schools, according to White House figures, amounting to some $8 billion a year. K-12 schools in America annually spend an average of $0.67 per square foot on electricity and $0.19 per square foot on natural gas. For example, a typical 1,000-student high school requires around 173,730 square feet to accommodate its students. This means that a school of this size might pay around $149,500 for energy depending on its location, consumption practices, and the ratio of electricity to natural gas usage.


As solar energy gains traction across the country, one beneficiary has been schools, particularly those in cash-strapped districts contending with dwindling tax bases. Newly available federal funding for school energy upgrades in the infrastructure bill, along with incentives to adopt solar in recently passed climate legislation, is forecast to offset those costs while also clocking environmental benefits.


From New Jersey to California, nearly one in 10 K-12 public and private schools across the country were using solar energy by early 2022, according to data released by Generation180, a nonprofit that promotes and tracks clean energy. That’s twice as many as existed in 2015. The savings in electric bills from schools with solar panels often topped millions in each district, and many have been able to adopt the technology without shouldering any costs up front.
