Arctech, the world's leading tracking, racking, and BIPV solutions provider has announced that it finished the shipment of 12MW SkySmart II solar trackers for a project in Thailand, the deal also marks the company achieving a 100MW project portfolio in Thailand.

Building on the success of the 49MW SkySmart II project in the region, A2 Technologies Co., Ltd and Arctech are looking to extend their partnership to Enerve Mining Thailand. 

The mining industry is high-electricity consumed as it accounts for 10 percent of world energy consumption. The energy consumption of the world's mining industry corresponds to 80 percent of the world's electricity use. On the flip side, green production can only be achieved if it fully exploited the precious minerals and metals needed for the energy transition which has remained buried and untapped.

Mine operators around the world are looking for ways to achieve net zero and move away from traditional coal-based power generation. Solar energy can effectively facilitate renewable energy for the mining industry, especially in mining areas with a large amount of idle land and strong solar radiation.

In October 2022, the government of Thailand introduced a feed-in-tariff (FIT) of THB 2,1679 ($0.057)/kWh over 25 years for solar and a 25-year FIT of THB 2,8331/kWh for solar plus storage. The FIT scheme has been set for renewable energy, including utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, wind, and biogas. The move shows the Thailand government’s ambition for expediting Net Zero. Thailand currently has 3.47 GW of installed solar capacity, according to Apricum. The country has updated its 2037 solar targets by reducing the solar capacity target to 8.7 GW and keeping the target for floating solar at 2.73 GW.
