Arctech, the world's leading tracking, racking, and BIPV solutions provider, announced it has inked a deal of supplying 26.58 MW solar tracking solution SkyLine in Africa. 

The project is located in Burkina Faso, Africa, which produces only about 60 percent of the electricity it consumes -- and just 20 percent of the overall population is hooked up to the grid. Many people use wood or butane gas bottles. However different regions of Burkina Faso have experimented with solar panel energy for more than a decade, the country hopes to meet 30 percent of its electricity needs from photovoltaic solar panels by 2030, and Ghana, as well as Côte d'Ivoire, export electricity to the landlocked country to meet its needs. Last year, the country announced the biggest solar plant launched in West Africa. 

In Africa, scheduled and unscheduled power outages have become a reality for years. On February 9th, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, declared a “state of disaster” over his country’s crippling power shortages, saying they posed an existential threat to the economy and social fabric. Ramaphosa pledged to end an energy crisis that threatens economic and political stability. The power outage behind this is that the vast majority of South Africa’s electricity is supplied by a fleet of coal-fired power stations that have been overused and under-maintained for years.

Arctech has expanded its market to Africa since 2017 and obtained an accumulated portfolio of 200 MW solar tracking and racking solutions up to date.
